Now that we are (finally) enjoying summer in Cambridge, it’s hard to remember that spring 2013 begin with an epic snow storm! We loved seeing your photos of Nemo’s impact on Harvard.

We celebrated Super Bowl Sunday together with epic amounts of pizza & wings. Groups watch the drama of Oscar night in Peabody Terrace & Cowperthwaite. And for a sweet treat, Akron & Cowperthwaite CAs brought residents Valentine’s Day cookies!
One of the highlights of spring ’13 was the Graduate Commons Masquerade Ball. Residents from all GCP communities were invited to the Radcliffe Gym for an evening of masks, cocktails, amazing food, & LOTS of dancing.
Fabulous GCP Community Advisor & Resident Advisor Staff!

Many thanks to Cory Maxwell-Coghlan, our fabulous photo booth photographer, for capturing the evening!
Jim & Doreen Hogle, our Peabody Terrace Faculty Directors
It wouldn’t be a semester at GCP without our Faculty Directors hosting a number of successful events! Dr. Lerner & Dr. Gill held Cookie Nights, Sunday Dinners, & attending Beowulf with the Cowperthwaite community. Dr. Carrasco & Dr. Parra opened their home for Wine Nights & a Graduation Celebration in Akron. In Peabody Terrace, the Hogles hosted Open Houses & made a special appearance at our Family Earth Day event. We hope that you had the opportunity to spend some quality time with our amazing Faculty Directors, who have been instrumental in guiding the program!
We celebrated Pi Day (3.14) with appropriately festive treats from Pesti Pies.
Community members took the lead in planning events this semester. For the first time residents led a movie series in Peabody Terrace, showing films from their home country. In Akron & Cowperthwaite community members shared their work in a Resident Lecture Series. Thank you to everyone who took the time coordinating these wonderful events!
At the end of March, we set out to determine “Who is the Brainiest of them All” by coordinating a trivia tournament open to all Harvard graduate students. Thanks to Kevin Baum, Assistant Director of Student Affairs in the Graduate School of Education, and Ashley Skipwith, Housing Coordinator in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, for their efforts in the planning of this brain-busting evening. The competition was intense, but ultimately HKS Team Awesome proved to be the best of the best!

As always, we were honored to host some amazing Meet the Scholar guests: Dean Lizabeth Cohen (Cowperthwaite), Dr. Brian Gill (Cronkhite), Dr. Lawrence Lessig (Peabody Terrace), Dr. Matt Liebmann (Akron), & Dr. Jonathan Walton (Peabody Terrace). With such a variety of topics & academic backgrounds, we were fortunate to learn from a diverse group of scholars.
April was bursting with Earth Month events in collaboration with The Office of Sustainability. From educational movie nights, to local wine & cheese evenings, a local dessert night (TAZA chocolate—yum!), and a Lorax-themed family fun day—we had a very active April!

GCP also held a highly successful clothing drive—donating more than 1,107 pounds of clothing to Second Chances!
Julie Hodges, our fabulous family programmer, brought GCP families together for a regular parachute rainbow dance classes & story times. She coordinated a number of fun & engaging activities for children in our community–thanks for all your hard work Julie!

Mexican beer & tequila tasting, performances by Ballet Folkloric, & dance lessons keep the party going all afternoon!
